AWOL

is clearly what I have been for a few weeks, sooooorry. Been caught up in the hustle and bustle of university. How I despise rush.

I will start with an ode. An ode to Oyster Magazine, which nourishes me every two months. If I had to choose between Oyster or dinner, I would probably choose Oyster. I think it was Carrie Bradshaw who said about Vogue, that she felt that it ‘fed her more’. Anyway, check it out online if you havent already, especially their fashion section. All of their amazing photoshoots are there, and I find myself to be like a child in a candy store when I’m looking through those photos.

The thing I think I like most is that they are high profile, international and edgy, and yet many of their shoots feature unknowns. Unknown photographers, unknown models, unknown stylists and artists. They do quite often feature amazing and well known people as well, but I think the beauty of Oyster lies in its glossy pages filled with beautiful faces that no one yet knows the name of. I think it makes the reader focus of the beauty, rather than the fame.

I will hopefully post some outfits I love in a day or two. Byee.

university fashion

It gets fairly disturbing and fail-worthy sometimes. There are the people who wear old trackies and look like they’ve just rolled out of bed. Then there are the girls who pack on the make up and trot around in short tight skirts, chunky jewelry and heels, and the occasional male in a suit and overbearing amounts of cologne. Then there are the emo/gothic looking kids, who wear those strange stripey handless gloves, too much eyeliner and too-tight black jeans, and are just too individual to even consider talking to people wearing clothing in colours other than red or black. Then there are ‘alternative’ kids, who are also “individual”, and wear those fluorescent coloured tights with too-big opshopped dresses that are not attractive or even nice-looking in any way. They are not at all colour-coordinated, unlike their more fashionable (yet still ‘alternative’-ly classified) counterparts, who mainly wear black trench coats, high waisted denim jeans, those slouchy berets, and black ballet flats with copius amounts of colour-coordination. While the latter look decent, they tend to fade into the bckground, while the alternatives with no colour coordination stand out, but for all the wrong reasons.

Seriously, when will people realise that fluoro tights, stupidly skimpy dresses and skirts, heels, suits, overly studded pieces of clothing that haven’t been washed since they were purchased, pajama trackpants, elbow-length striped gloves, hair glitter, body glitter, any other type of applied glitter, or an overall lack of colour-coordination is not good. In any situation really, but especially at uni. I understand that it is the generic ‘time to experiment’ in your life. But seriously, go make out with someone of the same sex and see if you like it or something. I really don’t want to have to look at your bad outfits because you are attempting to create some kind of eccentric personality or pick up. Am I alone in this rant or does everyone feel this way? Ooook bye.

P.S Thigh-high stripper heels at uni is HUGE EPIC BAD IDEA NUMBER ONE.

why oh why

I am a big fan of

Viktor and Rolf’s Fall 2008 RTW collection. Even through the drab (yet wonderfully adaptable) grey focus colour, the collection has incredible individuality. According to style.com, Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren said, “We love fashion, but it’s going so fast. We wanted to say ‘No’ this season.”

I’m pretty sure every fashion-loving lady, fashion-forward woman, or unfortunate fashion victim has experienced this at one point or another. Where you’ve just bought pieces to accomodate current fashion trends, buuuuuut the runways have already moved on. That’s why staple pieces rock. But statement pieces are so much fun ! Like these Barkins shoes I found while shopping at Harbourtown the other day. They were in a sale at Table 8, and I had to have them. Good thing they were $15 right, chances of me wearing purple heels all the time = zero.

Just quickly, some other things I found at Harbourtown: Tartan blazer with gold buttons, grey fitted with with big big shoulders ($9!). Found some other stuff as well but these were the best! Picture for you mmhmmmmm

Moving on; even though Anna Sui’s 2010 Resort collection looks unorganised, its still filled with summery dresses that are just gorgeous. See here.

Pretty. I especially love the loose black boots, they keep an edge to the pretty.

I have about a trillion outfit photos to put up but I am lazy when taking aforementioned photos so they are shitty mirror shots with huge amounts of visible flash and a messy bedroom behind me. I may or may not put some decent ones later. But probably not, as I’m having dinner with my ladies Kate and Rosy. So ner. Bye.

my fantabulous day of opshopping

My boyfriend is currently moving house. So, this means that we must take all the random reusable items of clothing and junk to a charity store, like Anglicare or the Salvation Army. However, this also means that Chloe gets a full day of opshopping delight !

These are my finds :)

SkirtsPale blue high-waisted miniskirt, and pastel purple high-waisted belted skirt.

Shiny top & skirtOversized glittery top & Silver shiny skirt (courtesy of the lovely Emma Rollo)

ShirtsSilk top and see-through oversized top… the picture doesn’t do either of these gorgeous tops justice :(

Cardie & Sleeveless TopBig oversized comfy cardie :) and a navy sleeveless shirt with buttons down the side

Happy happy happy. I did also get a wonderful beige Louis Vuitton jacket, which I love (also courtesy of the wonderful Emma Rollo) ! But it is currently being washed because I’ve worn it a bajillion times already :) love it !

The other thing I was thinking about the other day, was the difference between the way models are dressed in fashion editorials, and the way people dress for every day to day. I saw an outfit in a fashion magazine not too long ago that was a bit out there, but I owned majority of the items or something similar to the ones pictured. Now the model wouldve been adored and had thousands of women everywhere say, “What an amazing outfit”, or “I wish I could wear something like that and get away with it”, yet when I wore my outfit, I got some strange looks.

Why shouldn’t we, normal people, be able to get away with fashion? I challenge every single girl, woman, who reads this – dress like your idol. Dress like Carrie. Dress like that model in the latest Russh. Dress like you are in an ediotiral. And feel confident ! Why shouldnt you? I’m going to make this week “Dress like I’m in an editorial” week. Yay !

Ciao. x
